Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between heavy steel and light steel?
Heavy steel is thicker material (5mm+) like I-beams, plate, and structural steel. Light steel includes sheet metal, roofing, and thin panels. Heavy steel commands higher prices due to easier processing.
Do you buy painted or rusted steel?
Yes! We accept steel in any condition. Paint and rust don't disqualify your scrap, though clean steel gets the best rate. Heavy contamination may be priced as contaminated steel.
How much steel do I need for free pickup?
Generally 500kg+ qualifies for free collection in the Hunter Region. Smaller loads can be combined if you're along our regular routes. Call us to discuss—we're flexible for commercial clients.
Can I mix different types of steel in one load?
Absolutely. We'll sort and weigh each type separately to ensure you get the best price for each grade. Mixed loads are welcome.
Do I need to cut steel into smaller pieces?
Not necessarily. We have equipment to handle large pieces. However, cutting into manageable sizes (under 2 metres) can speed up processing and sometimes earns a slightly better rate.
What payment methods do you offer?
We offer instant bank transfer for both smaller and larger loads. Payment is made the same day you deliver or we collect your steel.
Do you take stainless steel?
Yes, but stainless steel is priced differently than regular steel due to its nickel and chromium content. It typically fetches 3-5x the price of regular steel. Call for stainless rates.
